Wow, the Super Bowl is a week away and we’ve already got our first banned commercial of 2010. What’s the scoop? Well, it seems as though CBS (the national network that will be carrying the Super Bowl) has rejected a commercial from Internet Dating service ManCrunch. Although CBS has been quite public about their reasons why the ad will not air during the big game, the Toronto-based dating website has deemed the rejection as ‘discrimination.’
Why would a company feel as though they are the victims of discrimination? ManCrunch is a gay dating website and even though they seem to have met all of the financial requirements for a purchasing 30 seconds of airtime during the Super Bowl, CBS has still declined them. Under normal circumstances a 30 second spot during the game costs around $3 Million, a number well within the budget of ManCrunch – but after reviewing the ad, CBS still, “has difficulty verifying ManCrunch’s credit status.”
In CBS’s defense, they are claiming that there are only one or two spots remaining during the entire game for ads and even companies like GoDaddy.com are having difficulty securing a spot. Not really sure who is wrong here, if any, but if you were wondering about the commercial in question, check it out below:
